"I initially competed with non-disabled athletes," the BMC athlete continues. "Later, I chose to be classified in paratriathlon with the French federation. After participating in detection days, where paratriathletes were tested in all three sports, I was selected to join the development team in 2023. This stage precedes joining the French national team and allows participation in international competitions."
Only one week after his 5th place and bike crash in IM70.3 Mallorca, Kristian Høgenhaug toed the line at Challenge The Championship in Samorin. Not for the first time this season, Kristian had a very strong swim and exited the cold water as part of the big leading group.

“Old dogs can still bark,” the Dutchman laughed after the finish. “Not only me, but everyone from the Dutch team is now qualified for Paris 2024, which is a fantastic result, particularly considering our great mixed relay performance from last week too.”
After the race, Kristian Høgenhaug reflected on his performance. "5th place today. But it feels like a win. I woke up with a fever and sore throat yesterday, and a completely soaked bed this morning. Unfortunately, I lost all my nutrition early on and didn't get any carbs until 50km on the bike. A crash at 70km to top it off. That made for a brutal run. In the end, I am really happy with the outcome and how I handled the bad luck. The fitness is definitely on point. Congrats to all finishers and the guys in the front, who made it a day where you had to fight for every second. 8 days to lick the wounds before it’s go time again. I love racing even on days like this."
