Six and Counting: Sarrou Rules the Roc d’Azur
Jordan Sarrou has made history at the Roc d’Azur CIC. On the demanding 55 km course around Fréjus, the French star won the race for a record sixth time, riding his BMC Fourstroke R 01.
Sarrou had arrived straight from a busy block of racing in the United States and wasn’t fully recovered. He still rode a smart, tactical race and spent the day in a close fight with Canada’s Cole Punchard. Several riders attacked, but none could get away, and the two came into the final kilometres together. The former world champion knew the course perfectly, and his well-timed sprint won it in 2:18:26.
The Fourstroke R 01 gave him what the Roc demands: speed on the punchy climbs and control on the fast, technical descents. Sarrou said afterwards that he paced himself carefully all day, especially on the descents, and he praised the atmosphere and the level of the competition.
Six wins, more than anyone else in the race’s history. Congratulations, Jordan.
